A little bit about me

I knew after my first time in a pottery studio 2 things;

  1. That I loved working with clay and

  2. That I needed to find my voice in the world of clay.

I began my artistic pursuits as a metal smith/ jewelry designer, eventually studying at the Betzalel School of Art and Design in Jerusalem.

Upon my return to the States I looked for an apprenticeship in the studio of a working jeweler.  Thus I found myself as an apprentice doing the grunt work of a busy studio owned by Eve Alfille.  Over the span of 2 years I was slowly given more and more challenging tasks until by the end of my time there I was able to accurately reproduce given designs in gold and silver.

Ready to try something new I moved to New York City and sent my short resume to jewelry designers whose work I admired, looking again for an apprenticeship position.  I was hired on by Laurence DeVries..designer of jewelry and objet d’art.  It was during my time in DeVries studio that I happened upon the Kulick Stark Jewelry Arts Institute where the focus is learning the art of ancient jewelry making including how to alloy the 22k gold that is needed for the fine granulation work that is a hallmark of ancient jewelry.

In 1990, now married and starting a family, my husband and I launched a high-end designer jewelry business which produced my designs in 22k gold, silver and vermeil.  The business quickly grew to sell to over 400 stores internationally, among them Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Fred Segal and a who’s who of exclusive fashion boutiques.  The jewelry was also often featured in photo shoots for Vogue, Elle, and Glamour to name a few.

In the late 90’s I left the fashion industry in order to focus on my growing family.

In 2010 with my youngest children in school all day, and having moved our family over seas, and finding myself without my jewelry tools....I walked into a ceramics studio. I was blown away by staggering amount of options to be had; clays, paints, stains, oxides, glazes, temperatures, techniques and on and on.

In ceramics I have found a passion for combining form with function to infuse beauty into our every day lives.
